How many really great ideas have you NOT started acting on?

Are you waiting until your ideas are 100% baked before you start to promote them?

At one point in my business, I thought it would be impossible to launch an online course without having it all fully done; content and all.

I had a strong idea to do an online course in the summer of 2010. I thought about it, and I thought about it, and I continued to think about it… never really even getting started.

Each time I would think about starting to create it, I let the magnitude of completing the whole project bring me down. It seemed like so much work.

It took me until March 2011, 9 months later to take some clear action on this goal of mine.

And my secret is, I realized I didn’t need to have the entire project complete before I monetized and marketed it. I realized that all I needed was a clear idea of the results of my program and the language to market it. The meat of the course I would create as I went. This is a sure way to commit to getting a project done.

In business, we call this the 20% rule. Watch this weeks video to find out more about the 20% rule PLUS meet my wonderful Badass Biz Chick friend Amanda, who I just spent the week training with.

She’ll teach you how the 20% rule helps you “take a leap and learn to fly!”

Well hello there world! I’m back from video hiatus! Over the last two weeks I’ve fully moved into my new house which has turned into Badass Biz Chick/ Goddess HQ with my badass roommate Majida and I’m loving it! Our intention was to create a fully feminine supportive and business supportive space where we could live, rejuvenate, laugh, cry, and host our business events. I feel so good to be here.

So now that you’re caught up with my life ( and I’m caught up with my life), I’m here to tell you the T-R-U-T-H about the importance of your logo in your business.

Too many times I see new business owners oogling over their logo and their business card, spending hours on end organizing their office and racking up the office depot credit card (you know who you are)… this has to stop happening. Now you can take a sigh of relief because get what????? Logos are OVER. DONE. FINITO… comprende?

Watch the video to find out why and what to do about it (plus watch me do funny things with my face and watch out for something “scary” around 1:25).

I also learned a very important lesson about logos and presentation from the Chocolate Bar section at the grocery store which I also share in this informative 6 min biz lesson. Check it.

If there was a “Shit badass biz chicks say” video, one line would go something like: “Logos are so 2011, Your face is your new logo…. and color is the new black.” :)

Of course, logos will never totally die. They are very useful. But leave the logo makin’ for when you have a solid rep and brand to expand outward from, when your brand no longer is just about you it extends into your team members and even the people who you train to teach your system and etc.

As I mentioned last week, your look is your brand and your brand is a personality. And if you are an entrepreneur, in your case, your brand IS your personal personality. So your goal is to highlight the most magnetic qualities of your personality in everything you do. The problem is that when asked the question, what’s your personality, many people go silent and can’t clearly answer the question.

This is why it’s so important to have a mentor or coach or friend help you delve out what is so awesome about you so that you can learn to express it more, own it more, and amplify it more.

Because so much of your marketing mojo comes from your brand and your look in all areas ( your phsyical look, your website, your content, your energy etc) I spend a lot of time helping my clients get clear on how to do this. Remember the chocolate bars, you need to be able to stand out for your authentic greatness.

I’m so excited to dedicate more of my time this year to helping women entrepreneurs get more clear about their business, attract more perfect clients, create the lives they want and make more money and I want to invite you to check out the details for my upcoming Feminine Business + Entrepreneurship Mastermind and if you’re skin is tingling to work with me and a rockin’ group of hot, badass women entrepreneurs then go to badassbusinesschick.com and find out how to join us.

You’ll get private coaching with me, group training, a live business and art of feminine presence training in Austin,TX plus tons more.

Remember to leave me a comment ( I forgot to tell you in the video, oye vey). I wanna know:

1) How did this video help you in your biz this week?

2) What are your thoughts about your face being your logo? Any resistance to that?

Until next week my loves!

Lauren

Ok, ok, ok, so the hooker title is just something I came up with to get your attention. But for the record, dressing like a hooker is great for business, if your business is selling sex on the street. The truth is, we can learn something from the red light district in our businesses; appearance is an important part of attracting customers.

So here’s my question for you: Is the way you look hurting or helping your business??

As a badass business chick, a big part of your branding is about your “look”. This might sound cliche or superficial to you but it’s the hard truth about life: appearance matters and people like to do business with people who look and feel good.

We take in so much information based on how a person looks before they even speak. Just think about it. You can tell just by what someone is wearing and how they carry themselves what kinds of activities they enjoy, what sorts of people they hang around, and what their belief systems are like and more. If you don’t believe me, just check out the viral “shit girls’ say” videos that started a cascade of stereotype spoofs ( i.e. Shit single girls say or Shit new age girls say or Shit Hispter Girls say ) flowing across the Internet. There are all sorts of types of people, yogis, vegans, crossfitters, activists, sports fans, goths, professionals etc. I’m sure most of you can tell me many qualities about these types of people just by seeing the words on this screen.

Your look says a lot about you and who you desire to attract. Your look is your brand and a brand is a personality. The good news is, you already have one of those, so all you need to do it articulate clearly what your personality is…. which for most people ends up being easier said than done.

3 simple things you can do to create a clear and approachable look for you and your business

1) What are the top 3-5 words that you want people to get about you when they see you in person, see your headshot, or go to your website?

Words have energy and that energy can be infused into your business. When you know how to amplify the energy of the qualities or words, things seem to get a lot more clear for you and for people who might want to buy from you.

The one word family that should always be present: approachable/warm/inviting. If you don’t look and feel approachable, you won’t have customers and you won’t make money. Let what you love guide you. When I work with my clients, we extract out an understanding of who they are authentically and the qualities that come with that. Those authentic qualities are what light you up inside and when you amplify them, things flow better in your business. When you connect every thing you do to these words, you brand and business will be a cohesive and clear entity.

One of my current mastermind clients recently remembered how much she loves nature and environmentalism as well as going on adventures. We came up with words like wild, green, compassion, and freedom to represent her brand. It seems simple, but she simply hadn’t sat down to lay out these words and the truth is most people don’t even think of it. Now that she’s clear on the energy she wants to infuse in her business, she can move forward with more purpose and ease. In fact she was able to finally download a business name she loves that fits her word energy: The Life Holistic: Solutions for body, home, and planet.

2) What does your ideal client “expect” you to look or be like?
This is a tricky one because I don’t want you to go around dressing or acting like other people want. But I do want you to make a stretch into dressing or “be-ing” more like the kind of person that your idea customer wants to be like. People do business with you because of YOU not your product. If they don’t feel that you have something they want or that you are somehow “ahead of them” in the game then they are less likely to want to learn from you or listen to you.

An example of this for me is my wardrobe, I typically like to wear yoga pants and a t shirt most of days of the week and I have no issues going to target without makeup on or having my hair done. I used to pride myself on being “a girl who doesn’t care what other people think”. Wow was I kidding myself with that one. I thought, people should like me for me not because of what I’m wearing.

I’ve always dressed fun, feminine and sassy, however, now that I know a few of my words are serious, effective, I’ve updated my wardrobe when I go meet people for business meetings to reflect that and I spend extra time getting ready for those events to make sure I look professional, fun, feminine, sassy… but that serious business training is about to happen.

3) Does your current “look” reflect those words and speak to your idea clients? If not, what can you do to amplify those words in your presence in person and online? If Yes, you can always refine and amplify.

Here are some questions that you can ask to help you

What needs some love in your physical presence? Hair, wardrobe, makeup, personal style etc

What needs love in your marketing materials? Headshots, website banners, the look, feel, and flow of your website and copy writing.

Even though it would be nice, we can’t escape the truth that as we step more into the world of being seen that we will invite more and more people to see us and therefore they will judge us. They will stick us into a category based on their life experience and ideas. They will decide to like you or not based on a few seconds of seeing and feeling your energy. You can consciously choose to do everything in your power to be as approachable and authentically representing your brand ( your personality) as possible. Plus, there’s always more room for even hotter and more expressive women in this world.

If you loved this lesson ( I got a few comments last week about loving the writing so I decided to try it this week again), share it with all your badass chicas and leave me a comment.

I wanna know Specifically:

How did this lesson help you in your biz this week.

What is one thing you will do to update your look?

PS. the words for my business currently are: Fun, Sassy, Serious, Effective, Feminine… and of course warm :) I recently updated my own banners to reflect this. Have you noticed the new banner? I also included an example of how my Badass Biz Chick banner shifted in just the last few months as well for the same reasons.

Here’s how my banner has evolved over this past year

Spring 2011

Fall 2011 – notice the subtitle changed as well

Jan 2012- action shots are highly recommended in banners. That photo is a screenshot of some video footage from one of my Authentic Presentations that Sell full day intensives. No expensive photographer needed, keep it simple.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling lots of excitement, fear, angst, and joy all rolled into one so far in January. Last week I returned from Colorado for some holiday down time and immediately ( and I mean the very next day) moved all my stuff out of one house and moved into another. Since then I’ve been juggling my self care, my business, getting settled in my new house, and making sure my Art of Feminine Presence Classes that begin this week and next are filled.

I’m thrilled to report that despite my super meltdown sunday morning (moving through my fear of not being secure and not having enough money), that I have 2 full and one 80% full classes beginning this month. I tell you this so you know that it is possible and totally normal to be in fear, have meltdowns, feel exhausted and still have your business keep going. One thing that I always struggle with as a recovering underearner, a transitioning solo-preneur ( I’m bringing on my first team member this year!) and a 20-something who sometimes still feels like she can’t take care of herself is my own fear of being secure. Underneath it all there is a fear I have that I’ll be found out, that I have to look all put together, that I’ll do something wrong, that people will disconnect from me and not love me, and that I won’t survive…. can you relate?

As an act of self care this week after my move, I’m opting out of my usual video lesson for a written lesson and I want to talk about another fear that I think is one of the single most impeding fears that hold women back in their business and in their life all together. Let’s look at it together, and then I’ll share a few solutions with you.

The Fear of Being Seen

Including but not limited to similar fears such as putting ourselves out there, doing so much work and efforting so much only to be rejected or fail and etc.

So many women, including me, have a fear of being seen. We fear being seen as a bitch, overly nice, needy, too distant, rude, smothering, loud and obnoxious, too quiet and shy, too sexual, trying too hard, not trying hard enough, stupid, know it all, the prude, the whore… the list could go on forever.

This fear of being seen can show up big time in our business. I received this email from one of my current students and wanted to share it with you because I think she explains it better than I do:

“For example, in one class we covered the issue of “not wanting to be seen” and how we as women sometimes – at least for me – subconsciously do not want to be seen, judged, criticized…so we make ourselves ‘invisible”energetically! Well, that made a profound shift in my personal and biz life…as I realized that the reason I was struggling in biz was because I did not want to be seen! And the reason no one was asking me out was because I did not want to be seen! After allowing this simple yet powerful realization to really open me…I began to see increases in my financial flow…more people began hearing about my biz and men started asking me out!!! I finally was allowing myself to be seen! The feminine NEEDS and WANTS to be seen! I was in some way denying that part of my feminine based on past patterns and experiences. Not any more!”

Say it Sister! I actually see many clients who actually don’t WANT to be seen ( or so they make themselves think). They try to make themselves appear smaller and not take up so much space

Solution #1: Feel the fear and do it anyway. When I talk to my other colleges and mentors who’ve been successful in their life and business, this is what sets us apart. I STILL feel afraid to call my list of people who are interested in attending my classes and events, even the ones I have established relationships with. I just feel my fear, and I do it anyway. I actually use my fear as a marker that I should REALLY REALLY do that thing I’m afraid of. If you don’t you’ll end up in the same unfulfilling job, having the same unfulfilling relationships, and still dreaming about what you think you can’t have 5 years from now. Do you want to grow or do you want to stay in the same place you are now? It’s your choice.

Solution #2: Find some way to consciously practice increasing your personal presence, your feminine energy, and your confidence that you are valuable, you have something to offer this world, and to feel un-afraid to walk into a room and make your mark. A powerful and Feminine woman fearlessly creates a wake behind her as she walks. It’s not arrogant, it’s not fake, she is simply totally in love with her-self and with life and it oozes from her being. This is why we are so attracted to women like this. We want what they are having.

The best news is, you can have that too. It just takes practice. As you know, I have lots of resources for this, if you are an Austin local, you can come take my Art of Feminine Presence Classes, if you are not local you can get my Online Video Training Course, Grow your Glow , Join my upcoming Badass Business Chick Feminine Business Mastermind Sisterhood which begins in march, and at the very least, I highly recommenced that you read Powerful and Feminine: How to increase your magnetic presence and get the attention you want by Rachael Jayne Groover.

Solution #3: Take up all your space… and the space in the room: The best and most magnetic speakers and presenters take up all the space in the room. Whether they realize it or not, they think of themselves as energetic beings as well as physical ones. Next time you are putting yourself out there, try taking up all of your own space physically as well as the space in the room you are in. Check in with yourself, are you taking up all the space inside your body or are you stuck inside your mind chatter? Are you more comfortable taking up space in your heart area but not your pelvis area? Make notes of this. Now imagine that you are an energetic being and you can expand and take up the whole room. Notice how all of this feels.

We are all afraid to be seen in some way. The key is to feel the fear and do it anyway, consciously practice increasing your confidence and personal presence, and to learn to take up the space in your body as well as the energetic space in the room. You can look and feel more confident in an instant with a few key steps, I’ve done this with hundreds of women. But it takes practice. Most people won’t take the time to do that, but I know that you will because you are dedicated to your own personal growth and the growth of your business.

Remember, the only difference between you who will succeed and other people who won’t is that other people allow things to stop them from moving forward.

The world needs MORE and MORE women who want to be seen and who walk the planet making their mark with confidence and presence. I know that this is my goal, will you join me?

As you can start to see after watching the video, creating a clear system for your services, whether they be one on one or group is truly an act of self-care and love. When you do this you create boundaries that begin to attract the people you really want to work with instead of clients who don’t want to change and just drain you.
Because let’s face it. You are women who want to change the world! If you are working with people who are resistant to changing and are less than thrilled to be working with you, then what service are you really giving the world? If you want your bank account to grow, you’ve got to get people results they want. And people who don’t want to change won’t get results.

Remember to share this post with all your favorite Badass Business Chicks ( or badass chicks thinking about starting a business) on your favorite social media and leave me a comment!

I want to know specifically:

What other questions do you have about packaging your services?

How have you started to package your stuff and leverage your time?

Until next week!
